Civilians are out here paying $150 to crawl through mud for fun.
There are 5K races called "Tough Mudder." People do them voluntarily. For medals. Plastic medals.
Veterans did that. Every day. For free. While carrying 80 pounds of gear. While someone yelled. In a country they couldn't find on a map before they got there.
And now those same veterans watch their coworkers brag about their weekend warrior obstacle course and have to smile and nod and say "that sounds really challenging" while internally screaming into the void.
Civilians also pay for things like:

Sleep deprivation retreats (it's called deployment, Karen)
"Extreme camping" (it's called field ops with worse food)
